Botox
works by blocking the release of Acetylcholine (a chemical
neurotransmitter) from nerve endings. The muscles where
BOTOX is injected
become "relaxed", thus reducing wrinkles.
These wrinkles are termed 'dynamic wrinkles' because
they come on with muscle action. 'Static wrinkles' are
those already etched onto the skin, even without any
muscle action. Treatment options for static wrinkles
include Botox, Fillers
and IPL
or either of these in combination with BOTOX.
BOTOX is primarily used to eliminate the wrinkles on
the forehead, brow area and around the eyes BUT is not
limited to those areas. (lips, mouth, nose, neck)

Our Techniques
At CFAA, we use BOTOX to enhance one's features. Already
beautiful patients will look even more beautiful in
our hands. We can lift (yes, lift by relaxing muscles)
various parts of the face and neck, lessen shadows along
the jaw and chin as well as to reshape faces with BOTOX
alone!
Another common approach is to use BOTOX in synergy
with collagen building treatments like Total
Skin Metamorphosis. Skin is able to produce 2-5
times more collagen than if such procedures were done
alone.
BOTOX usually begins working in 2-3 days, peaking at
10 days and lasts up to 3-4 months.
Are the effects of BOTOX lasting?
It has been shown that when BOTOX is done back to back
for 2-3 years, the target muscles become weakened because
they atrophe. Thereafter, less BOTOX may be needed each
time.
Are the wrinkles going to come back with a vengeance
once BOTOX has faded?
Absolutely NOT! Wrinkles go back to the original state
or
perhaps
slightly improved after 3 months when the BOTOX has
worn off.
There is evidence to suggest long term improvements
even after one BOTOX treatment. There are long term
improvements to fine lines and skin texture that cannot
be explained by the muscle blocking action alone. It
seems without the background muscle pulling on the face,
healing takes place.
Complications
Complications are very rare. The reported complication
rates vary from 0.1 to 1% in published medical literature.
Ptosis (drooping brow) being the commonest, makes up
50%-75% of complications. However, CFAA finds this complication
easily correctable. No doctor in his/her right mind
injects in the wrong position.
Contraindications
BOTOX is unsuitable for those suffering from myasthenia
gravis, certain motor neuron conditions and those who
are allergic to Botulinum Toxins (obviously!) previously
used.
While aspirin usage and mild hypertension or diabetes
are not absolute contraindications, those with serious
bleeding conditions should not have any kind of injections
(BOTOX included) unless in life-saving circumstance.
The BOTOX Lift
"Lifting by selectively weakening some muscles"
BOTOX within the Skin (not into muscles)
INTRADERMAL BOTOX literally means injections are into
and within the skin, whereas in "conventional"
BOTOX, the injections are slightly deeper beyond the
skin into the facial muscles just beneath it.
The (Intradermal) BOTOX Lift as such is not targeted
at muscles of facial expression but on the platysmus
muscle at the jaw line and the fine muscles that control
pore size. The BOTOX Lift not only creates a tighter,
firmer and lifted face, it also gives a smooth, pore-less,
whole-day-powdered looking face for months...
Here's
how The BOTOX Lift works...
-
Smaller Pores means
Smaller Skin Area
The effect of BOTOX injected in this manner contracts
an area of the skin's pores. Smaller pores result
in a smaller skin surface area hence making skin
more stretched out over the face. A "face-lift"
and "stretching-out of wrinkled skin"
is as such achieved.
-
Platysmus Muscle
The "lifting effect" of Intradermal BOTOX
is also attributed to injections over lower part
of the face close to the jaw-line canceling some
of the downward pull of the platysmus muscle and
thus giving the cheeks and jowls a "lift".
Other
Beneficial Effects

Accompanying this "facelift", BOTOX also reduces
oil production, blocks sweat production as well as reverse
the inflammatory process that cause acne.
The effect of Intradermal BOTOX is therefore that of
a matt, poreless and powdered look anytime of the day
for 3-4 months. Acne outbreaks are significantly less
such that there will be less PIH (brown marks) over
time. Skin takes on a very refined texture.
Uncommon Side-effects

A slightly unbalanced smile is a possible but rare side-effect
with Intradermal BOTOX. The Zygomaticus major or the
Levator labii superioris alaque nasi may be affected
by BOTOX diffusing downward into them. They lie just
beneath areas of skin where treatment is unfortunately
most necessary. The side-effect can be consciously avoided
in expert hands.
Background
to The BOTOX Lift
Coinciding
with the popularity of mesotherapy, its techniques have
also been used with BOTOX in skin rejuvenation. The
idea was first mooted by Korean doctors who gave diluted
doses of BOTOX in multiple epidermal blebs. This was
then claimed to have skin rejuvenation and a lifting
effect that far surpassed conventional BOTOX.
Skeptics
Read about Intradermal BOTOX in Skin Rejuvenation, particularly
about its open-pores minimization properties.
Skeptics, us included, initially attributed this "lifting
and firming" effect to the multiple punctures causing
a certain degree of healing injury and hence more collagen
regeneration.
Skeptics were proven wrong with Intradermal-BOTOX. There
are very sound scientific bases on its mode of action.
The technique is now acknowledged by Allergan Inc.
The BOTOX Lift on its own costs $600 to $1,000 depending
on the size of the face.
We highly recommend that The BOTOX Lift be done in synergistic
combination with IPL, Mesotherapy, or other treatments.
Of course, we know that seeing
is believing. So check out before and after photos of
men and women who have had Botox® Cosmetic treatments
and see for yourself!
Botox
and Restylane, Juvaderm, Evolution, Redexis, Revanesse,
and other dermal fillers work well together creating
great results.
